Carousel Canopy Addition at Discovery Cube LA Construction update

JSFA is proud to serve as the Architect of Record for the exciting new Courtyard Carousel Canopy at Discovery Cube LA! Construction began last month on this 4,000 sq. ft. addition, which will stand nearly 18 feet tall and be located adjacent to the main entrance of the science center. Designed with an exposed metal deck cover, wide flange steel beams, and purlins supported by 12″ diameter steel columns with concrete pier footings, the canopy is engineered for both durability and aesthetics.

The structure will also feature a full array of solar panels on its top side, seamlessly integrating with the existing solar power system to enhance the facility’s sustainability. Additionally, the canopy is fully sprinklered to ensure safety.

This new addition will provide shelter for the main entrance and the upcoming installation of a 36-ft. diameter carousel, which will feature 30 horses, a spinning tube, and an ADA-accessible chariot. JSFA is thrilled to help bring this dynamic project to life at Discovery Cube LA, supporting the center’s commitment to innovation, learning, and family fun.
