We were the Architect, Theatre Consultant and Acoustician for the adaptation of the Long Beach Arena. Jerry Sherman Architect as Associated Architect. The venue hosts exhibits, conferences, banquets and concerts, for 3,000 to 5,000, as well as ballet, boxing and other functions.

The 45,000 sq. ft. bowl of the arena is enclosed by flying draperies and is covered by America’s only flying and largest tension grid. Because of the airplane cable used, more than 300 lights can shine through and create a kaleidoscope of atmosphere. The grid is also removable for the continuous use of the full arena for shows like Disney On Ice.

Construction was completed on this striking endeavor in April 2013 for a final construction cost of $7,000,000 using City Tideland Funds.
